Star 100.7, a local radio station, is GIVING AWAY A PURSE! I don't know all of the details, except the 3 times a day, at specified times, a caller calls in and plays a game similar to "Concentration" wherein he/she gives two numbers that, if turned over produce the identical brand of purse, the caller wins the purse! Yesterday I heard someone call in and she won! She won a purse that they said was worth $300 by matching the numbers!
http://www.starpittsburgh.com/pages/4150100.php?contentType=4&contentId=3783676
Too bad this blog won't continue much longer. . . or I would try to win a purse. . . .
I think because I am writing a blog about purses, my chances of winning should be pretty good, don't you?
I will continue to listen to the radio and attempt to figure out what's going on. . .
If I win
I will let you know!!

Winding Down Now
Wednesday, April 15, 2009
I have successfully (almost) completed a 12+ week-blog on purses. . .and through it all, I have kept my same purse. . .without changing it. . . so that makes me:
1. Boring
2. Unadventuresome
3. A no-frills kinda person
4. Not really concerned with keeping up with the latest fashion -- (and wouldn't even notice YOUR purse, if truth be told).
If I had to choose my own answers to the choices above, I would go with #3 and #4. Because I am NOT #1 and #2.
Just one or two more blogs to go. . . .
stay tuned!

The First Holy Communion Purse
Wednesday, April 8, 2009
Now to spend a little time on the "Communion Purse." The one that carried the little church prayer book and the rosary? With May just around the corner, I thought I'd spend a little time on the First Communion Purse.
The purse was white, of course, and we girls carried it down the aisle on the day of our First Holy Communion! What a treat that was!
There was barely enough room in that purse for anything else, but that was all we needed on our special day!
I kept that purse for the longest time - in my cedar chest. . . I may still have it. . . I'll have to check!
I believe that between the Easter Purse, and the First Communion Purse, this may be where the idea of "a purse for each occasion!" Perhaps this is why women have so many purses!!!!!
Ha!

The Easter Purse
Wednesday, April 8, 2009
With Easter just a few days away now, let me talk a little about Easter purses. . . c'mon, you remember them, don't you? As a little girl, we had these fancy little purses that we carried to Easter Sunday Mass? Or, all dressed up in our new Easter outfits? Fancy hat? Patent leather shoes?
Ok, girls, what did we carry in that little purse? I can remember carrying a handkerchief (the cloth ones, that were ironed), maybe some wax-like lipstick (that wasn't really lipstick, just something that 'resembled' lipstick), maybe a crayon and some change thrown at the bottom.
Ah, I remember!
My Easter purse!

April Fool's Day - and Accessories (Sunglasses)
Wednesday, April 1, 2009
Yes, yes, I know. It's April Fool's Day. . . I hate this day. Every year, if (when) someone plays a joke on me, I always forget that it's April Fool's Day and get caught up . . . and get really upset when I find that I've been duped. . . .
I can't wait until this day is over.
I looked up the sunglasses again. . . they are just too expensive. I'll hold out and hope to find them.
Until then, I just hope I get through this day.

Ok, the shopping experience on e-bay was a bust. . . I was bidding for a pair of sunglasses. . . many years ago I had a pair of brown Ray Ban sunglasses. . . I loved them! And I lost them! (Even though I lost them, like 8 years ago, I still look for them). . .
So, I saw a pair on e-bay - and thought I could buy them. Unfortunately, I was not available for the last hour of bidding. . .so I did not get them. Looking back, though, I should have been available, because I would have bought them at a great price! Oh well!
(This is the "accessory" I was talking about).

This blog is going to end soon, and I need to find some way out. I want to go out in style. So I am spending time trying to figure out how best to do that. . . .since this blog is about purses, shall I go out and buy some expensive, name-brand purse? Maybe two?
I need to think about this.
In the meantime, I've toyed with my first shopping experience on e-bay and I am currently bidding for something. . . yikes! more to follow.

While on Spring Break, I did a little bit of shopping.
And while I was shopping, I looked over at the purse department.
And I thought. . .hmmmmm. . . maybe I need a new purse.
(Notice the word "need"???? . . .ok, maybe "want" was the right word).
so I thought. . . hmmmmm. . .maybe I want a new purse.
And so I looked at them.
And looked.
And looked.
And decided there is nothing I like better than my own purse.
So I walked away.

Ahhhhh, Spring Break.
Now, this would normally be the time when the fashion-conscious females (out there) would be getting the "Spring" purse out. . . and daydreaming of warmer days. . .
flowers thinking of bursting out of the ground. . .
hearing the birds chirping in the early morning. . .
I still have my black Oroton purse, with no real plans to change it.
but, you never know!

To complete a thought from my last blog. . . I mentioned men's wallets. . .so here's a thought:
In my observation, it appears that if a man is right-handed, he keeps his wallet in his left back pocket; and if he's left-handed, he keeps his wallet in his right back pocket.
But, I would need a few men to prove or deny this theory.
Any men out there who care to comment?
Men?
Men?
"Anyone? Anyone?"
So, realizing this is a blog about purses, I cannot help adding this tidbit of information. . .
and this applies to BOTH men and women:
When you put on your socks, it goes like this:
Right-handed people put their LEFT sock on first.
Left-handed people put their RIGHT sock on first.
And most people don't even pay attention to this. . .so I ask you: TRY IT! And pay attention to what you do!
And, if you wouldn't mind, please comment. . .I'm curious as to the responses. . .
Also, look to the right. . .and take a look at the link I've added wherein people discuss men and the location of their wallets. . . pretty neat!

Whew!!! Glad Valentine's Day is over. . .so much pressure!!!
A topic I must include in this blog:
Man Purses.
I've heard of them, I've even seen them, and I personally know of a man who uses one (once in awhile).
I kinda have mixed emotions about Man Purses. . . since I am not an advocate for carrying a purse myself. . .
and since most men carry their entire life contents in a wallet is seated in the back pocket of their pants [more on this at another blog]. . .
and since I can't imagine much more that would go into a Man Purse other than their wallet. . .
I will add the following additional comments, though:
The design, shape and size of my Oroton purse is quite similar to the look of a Man Purse (which does not bother me one bit).
And
Frankly, I admire men who carry a Man Purse around. In my opinion, it requires quite a bit of self-confidence to do that (in many cities in the United States).
I say, "You go girl!" or something like that. . .
Seriously.

Still getting close to Valentine's Day. . .and candy. . . so here's my candy-in-the-purse issue:
Ladies, you all know about candy in the purse. . and this includes gum (sticks of it, as well as the chicklets), tic tacs, cough drops, and even those mints you take on your way out of the restaurant. . . you "plan" to eat them, you "thought" you ate them, you are quite sure that you got it all out of there (your purse). . . only to realize several months later that. . .oh, wait! look! Whassat in the bottom of my purse? Stuck to some pennies? What?!!!? Is that GUM? Ew!! And how did that cough drop get out of the package? Eeeewwwwwwwwwwwwwwww!!!
What are those little white thingies? Tic Tacs? Or some pill? Jeez, I can't remember now. . .so, should I eat one?
Eeeeewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww!

We are just days away from Valentine's Day - and that means going out, getting dressed up, and yes, bringing out the "fancy" purse. . .
You know what I mean - the teeny, weeny little purse that has sparkes and glitter, and . . .well, to be honest, it is just too darn small to hold anything of value. . .
Let's go over the stuff that goes into a "fancy evening out purse:" keys (to get in the house - er, if you're married, then your husband can carry the keys, but let's be honest: If you're married, then you're probably NOT going out. . .c'mon, be realistic), cell phone, lipstick, your license, some money, and face powder. Ok, so picture all of this in an itzy bitzy little purse. . . bulging at the sides.
Am I right ladies?
Happy Valentine's Day!

I don't want to have to do this, but I must: Have you paid attention to the PRICE of purses lately?!? And, that they're all the rage!??! AND that, no, it's not good enough to have ONE EXPENSIVE PURSE!!!! You've got to have MANY!!!! Huh? You've got to be kidding, right!?
Ok, this from someone who rarely carries a purse around.
But, in defense of expensive purses, let me say this: I usually have ONE purse that I use: "every season, for years and years." So, I don't buy a purse too often (remember, I rarely carry a purse around, so in my world, a purse can last 10 years!) And so when I buy a purse, I usually buy a practical, classic-style purse. And I believe in getting a "good" purse. . . although "good" and "expensive" can be two different things, especially in today's fad of purse-buying.
Since I've started this blog about purses, I've also discovered that the purse I currently have is a brand named "Oroton." I admit that I love this purse, and so I've gone on-line to see if I could replace it with an identical one (when it finally bites the dust). This is what I discovered: It WAS an expensive purse; the company is an Australian one, and the purse is no longer available.
So, do I believe in expensive purses? Yes, if it is of good quality. And yes, because I, for one, plan to keep my purse and use it year-round (remember. . .that is WHEN I am actually carrying my purse), and therefore, my purse has to last for years, and years, and years. . .which is why "classic" works best. . .
None of that Big-letters, big clasps, color-coded stuff for me. . .

I know that in the beginning I said that this whole blogger thing "feels like my purse has been stolen" and that this is so . . . so unnerving. . .that I am putting this stuff out there. . . I feel so naked!
But, I have a confession to make: I USUALLY DO NOT CARRY A PURSE AROUND.
Well, I do. . .but only sometimes.
I am not a purse-carrying-gal. Never liked to, and still don't like to. I will if I have to, but prefer not. (In fact, on the few rare occasions when I do have a purse with me, I am more likely to leave it behind!!! If you don't normally take a purse places, and then you do, well, you're more likely to forget about it. . . so THAT is also annoying to me).
I'm a "pocket" girl. Love Pockets! Pockets on pants, coats, shirts, sweaters, . . . that's where I keep my "purse" stuff.

Ok, so we've had a touch of bad weather lately, and everyone is in a bad mood. . . let me spend a few minutes on carrying a purse in bad weather. . .
MOST women have a purse that can be carried on the shoulder. . .and if you don't, and have one of those with just a little strap. . the kind you have to carry on your hand, then you are an Idiot!!!
See? The "touch of bad weather lately" has gotten to me, too. Seriously.
WHY in the world would you carry around a purse that you have to hold in your hand? I mean, don't MOST people need their hands to "do" other things (while carrying a purse?)
Before I get off on that rant, I need to get back to the "touch of bad weather" and how that ties into a purse. . . . . . . .. . . . . . . . . .. . . .. . . .. how to say this. . . . .. . .
Ok, the winter coat never seems to hold the purse strap on the shoulder, so it falls off the shoulder, and then the purse smacks you in the hip, and goes to the front of your body, and it bangs against your knee, and then you kick the purse out in front of you. And beware the purse that is open. . .(ladies, you know who I'm talkin' bout here). . . Stuff Everywhere!
Worse yet, the purse starts to fall off the shoulder, you step on a sheet of ice, and before you know it, you AND the purse are strewn on the ground. . . Stuff Everywhere. . . !!!!
I can't wait until the bad weather is over. . . .

Let me spend some time talking about men's wallets. . . trust me, this will be short.
I don't look in men's wallets, and I don't ask what is in there.
I've seen very large wallets that have WAY too much stuff in there. . and that is a real turn-off.
I've seen average sized wallets with just the right amount of stuff in there . . and that is nice.
I once dated someone who had an averaged size wallet, but when he opened it, there was NEVER any money in it! No bills! EVER!!!
Here's my question: If you wallet rarely has any money in it, why do you keep opening it? Do you think someone will slip money into your back pocket, into your wallet? What, and you won't FEEL THAT?
C'mon, no money, is no money, is no money.

Wednesday, January 21 - Let me spend a moment on purses when the owner is "sick." I don't know about you, but my purse has little, if no extra room for anything else. . .
When I am sick, and I need to carry around stuff to make me not feel sick, that takes up extra room in my purse. . .and sometimes, just sometimes, I've seen others who WANT others to know they are sick. . .
In this instance, the medicines are carried outside of the purse, and promptly placed IN PLAIN SITE OF EVERYONE ELSE ON THEIR DESK. This screams "I AM SICK!!!" to everyone around them. . .
But back to the purse. . .
Ok, cough drops can fit in the purse, but that's about it.
Cough medicine, prescription medicines often cannot fit in the purse.
So, the prescription medicine pills get put into the aspirin/migraine/muscle relaxant pill bottle. . .
and
sure enough,
they get "lost" in the bottle for some future date when, looking into the bottle, you can no longer remember what the heck that pill is. . .
Right?

Ok, so how many purses should we have?
This. . . this. . . is a tough question. And before I answer that. . .let me remind you [men AND women] of a few "Basic Purse Facts":
1. We can only use ONE purse at a time
2. A purse is the holder of 'things,' that's all it is.
3. The size of the purse may, or may not, be affected by the event it is being taken to. . . although in many cases, the size of the purse does matter.
4. Some people do not follow Fact #3.
5. There some items that are ALWAYS carried in a purse, no matter what.
6. There are usually some items that do not NEED to be carried in a purse, no matter what.
7. There is usually not enough room in our purse to carry something for you.
8. If we forget our purse somewhere. . .don't even think about it. . .WE ARE GOING BACK FOR IT. PERIOD.
9. Does the purse have to match the shoes? . . .the jury is out on this one. . unless you're going somewhere "special." And that, then entails "Special Purse Facts" which are completely different from "Basic Purse Facts."
10. And what are Nine facts without a 10th one?
So, how many purses should we have? At least one for every fact! A minimum of 10 purses!!!

Wednesday, January 14, 2009 - I realize that I need to spend a little more time on the contents of purses. . . and you females know what I'm talking about. . .the stuff, er, the junk that's in there. . . old cleanex; really-old-gum-in-sticks-that-is-disgusting-looking; pennies, nickels, and a few quarters, along with a few foreign coins (how did THAT get in there?!?). And before I forget, how about the pill bottle that you keep in your purse. . .the one that has a few pills for everything imaginable [migraine, headache, sinus infection, bladder infection, and muscle relaxant]. . that for some reason, all look the same now. . and you can't remember what the migraine pill looks like. . .and so, you often hesitate to give anyone else a pill, because you are secretly afraid that you will give them the wrong pill. . . [yeah, you know what I'm talking about!]. Here's my question: WHY, OR MORE IMPORTANTLY, HOW DOES THAT BOTTLE ALWAYS OPEN UP IN YOUR PURSE? HOW?? I mean, c'mon! It has one of those safety lids, the kind that has to be pushed down while you turn it!!!. . how the heck did that thing open!!??? . . . dental floss, hand lotion, face powder, and, in my case (er, I mean purse). . . I have, like, 9 lipsticks. . . .
Ladies, I know you're smiling at this. . .
More later. . .

Monday, January 12. 2009 - Ok, so someone actually "read" my stuff? I had TWO comments! To think that two people actually read my notes. . .! I am amazed!
I don't really think I have anything interesting to say!
Seriously.
[And for those of you who can read "Webdings" font, here it is]:

January 6, 2009 - Ok, this is my second post. . . and then my third, and fourth, and so on, and soon enough I will forget which post I am on, which, if I am numbering them, will become just a burden to look back each time to make sure I am numbering them correctly. . .and that will just add to the confusion I already experience in my life. . .so henceforth, I will NOT number my posts.
I also need to explain a little about the title of my blog - "This Feels Like My Purse Has Been Stolen." . . Think about it. . .[for the men who don't carry purses, just bear with me. . it will make some sense, even to you]. . . you know that nightmare you have where you are in front of a crowd of people. . .and you are naked? And you are So Embarrassed?!! Or, you have a full cart of groceries, wait in a very long line, and when you finally get to the front, and load all of your groceries onto the belt. . .and almost at the end of the order you realize you do not have your wallet on you? And, therefore, no money?! Again, another embarrassing moment, huh?
Ok, the purse thing: Let me tell you how it feels to have your purse stolen. . . women feel two ways about her purse. . . she doesn't want anyone to look in it, but on those rare occasions when she needs something (out of her purse) but is unable to do it herself, she will often say something like, "Oh, go ahead and just grab that out of my purse. . .go ahead, there's nothing in there." (Women?! C'mon, right???)
Well, we actually THINK there's nothing in there - until our purse is stolen. Then, WHAM! Our wallet, our money, our lipsticks, that new hand lotion, that special rosary, the prescription migraine pills, the keys to the house. . . the cell phone, the note from the co-worker with the name and phone number of the repair guy, a brand new little bottle of eye drops. Now we have to remember exactly which credit cards we were carrying at the time. . . library card, license, health insurance card. . .all of it, gone. . . lost. Or. . .WAIT!. . . maybe in someone else's hands? Oh man, I have to make those calls NOW!
We suddenly feel SO exposed, SO naked. So vulnerable. Embarrassed. Scared. Angry.
WHOEVER HAS MY PURSE NOW KNOWS 'EVERYTHING' ABOUT ME! A COMPLETE STRANGER!!!!!
What an awful feeling.
That's kinda how this feels. . .like I am hanging out my wares for complete strangers to see. . . .
Now does the title make sense?

My Very First Blog
Tuesday, January 6, 2009: This is my very first blog. I'd heard about blogs, from the media, from television, from college students, and from magazines. From what I knew, they seemed to be very personal information about someone's life. . . or hobbies, or whatever. It seems like those who blog want to advertise themselves in some way.
Please understand that I am one of those 'older' students who is pursuing her Master's Degree. For my class, I am required to create a blog and post to it a few times a week.
I feel like I've just had my purse stolen! And although I have not really said anything personal about myself. . . except that I am an 'older' college student, and that I am female, and that I am obtaining my Master's Degree, and that this is a requirement for class. . . yep, ok, I already feel exposed.
Understand, also, that my generation would not do something like this. But I am doing this. Because it is required.
